Personal Information Details:

Zoran Zaev was born on the 8th of October 1974 in Strumica. He is married to Zorica Zaeva, with whom he has two children, Aleksandra and Dusko.


Zoran Zaev graduated in economics at the Department for Economy of the University Ss. Cyril and Methodius. He is currently undergoing post graduate studies in monetary economy and finances at the same University.
 Zaev speaks English and Serbian.

Professional Career:

Zaev began his professional career as an employee in “Trgoprodukt” Strumica, where he worked in the period from 1997 to 2003; in the period from 2001 to 2003 he was the executive business manager of the enterprise. Zaev was a member of the administrative committee of the savings bank-prawn “Peon” (1990-2003), as well as the administrative committee of the Industry for construction materials “Elenica” (2001-2003). In the period from 2000 to 2003, he was the president of the administrative committee of the public enterprise “Komunalec” in Strumica.

Party Career:

Zaev has been a member of the SDUM since 1996, and ever since then he has been an active participant in every electoral cycle. For the parliamentary elections in 2006, he was appointed as the Chief of the Regional Elective Headquarters for the 4th elective unit. He was part of the presidency of the Municipal Organization of SDUM in Strumica.

He has been appointed as a vice-president of the SDUM in 2006, a function he executes until the year of 2008, when he was appointed acting president of the SDUM. On the ninth Congress of the party, he was re-elected vice-president of the Central Board of the SDUM.

Political Career:

Zaev began his political career in 2003, as a Member of Parliament in the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia. On the local elections in 2005, Zaev was elected mayor of the Municipality of Strumica.

Zaev has received the European Council Best Practice Award for the first public-private partnership in the Republic of Macedonia, implemented in the construction of the “Global” object. Under his rule, the Municipality of Strumica has received the greatest governmental acknowledgement in the ecology domain (2007-2008).

He was re-elected mayor of Strumica in 2009 and 2013.
